Art for the Master
Ten Saturdays of learning about volume, depth, light, shade, lines and color, eight youth from Bucana, Times Beach and Isla Verde received their certificates, tokens and most of all had their first art exhibit. Held at All Nations Christian Fellowship, Davao City, the opening night on September 30 was attended by nearly a hundred people. In only two days of exhibition, six paintings of the youth have been sold. Several are still waiting to be bought. Here are a few scenes from that memorable evening.
We started the evening with two prayers--one led by Jerry (our strategy coordinator) and another led by Ka Jhul (one of the community leaders).

Nearly a hundred people from the communities, the host church and our team graced the occasion.

I tried hard to fight the tears of joy so that I could properly acknowledge everyone who made the Taytayan Art Workshop and Exhibit '06 possible.

It was almost a tear-jerker when our art facilitator, Dadai Joaquin, was acknowledged. Dadai gave not just her time, effort and knowledge to the youth. She also gave her heart.

Joel was so insecure at the beginning of the workshop. The only one left from the 9 participants from Isla Verde, Joel thought of quitting. But with a lot of encouragement he stayed and ended up with two masterpieces.

Joel's paintings were the first to be sold!

The community leaders, ANCF's Pastor Jan and MUPT's Jerry together opened the exhibit by cutting the ribbon.

The new young artists had the rare privilege to have a brief mentoring moment with renowned Filipino water colorist Lito Pepito.

Thank you for your prayers for the youth of Bucana, Times Beach and Isla Verde. Because of your partnership, eight youth now look at the future with hope, three Muslim communities have a better relationship with Christians and more people have experienced God's love.

Soooo nice. This is sooooo nice. Galing nito Grace. Super duper nice. What can I say. Kulit ko no? Thank you to Dadai kahit di ko sa kilala at congratulations to Joel kahit di ko rin siya kilala. Bakit ba nung bata ako walang mga ganito? yan tuloy, frustrated artist pa rin ako.
what a refreshing sight after being away from my computer (thanks to milenyo)! magaling ka palang magdrowing ng sampayan! too bad, reserved na. i like the water lily but i'll still look at the other paintings. malaking bagay itong ginawa nyo para sa mga kabataan. bakit nga ba wala ring ganito nung teenager ako? pero hindi ako frustrated artist. :)
hi all passersby! thanks for all your encouraging words! the youth really had a good break. keep praying for us that more of the paintings would be sold.
