Habagat Relief Update
Today we met as a team to see our capacity to extend help to the monsoon wave (habagat) victims in terms of the resources that have come in through our family, friends and prayer partners.
As per our survey of the exact area where we serve, there are 38 families whose houses were completely washed away and 83 families whose houses are either partially damaged or are simply affected by the tide (ie. flooded houses, lack of source of income because the sea isn't fishing-friendly these days).
With the resources extended to us so far, we can distribute relief packs to all 121 families by Saturday (August 19). The contents of the packs will vary depending on the extent of damage the habagat has caused to them. Naturally, the 38 homeless families will receive more aid. The relief packs include rice, sardines, dried fish, coffee, sugar, mongo beans and a bar of soap.
On Thursday, Maimai (our team nurse) will bring a doctor to Bucana to check the children who have been suffering from cough, colds and fever. Some medicines will be given to them. However, there would be a greater need for medicines (ie. for cough and fever) in the coming days.
Other things that the displaced families would need are mats and blankets.
Please pray...
...that we can be God's hands and feet that will bring comfort to these affected families at this time of need.
...for additional relief aid to come in as this would make this relief effort more sustainable.
...that the Lord of the waves would calm the sea and speak peace to the hearts of these people.
We are grateful to you who have given, who are continuously praying, and who have volunteered in any capacity to bring God's love to the people of Bucana.
