Napico Post-Ondoy Med Mission

Last Tuesday, I finally had a chance to do something concrete to help flood victims. I thank God for the opportunity to serve with the medical mission team of GCF.

On September 26, the GCF Operation Compassion (OC) (the medical/dental mission team of our church, Greenhills Christian Fellowship Ortigas) was conducting a medical outreach in Napico in Pasig City when typhoon Ondoy hit. The doctors were stranded overnight as the flood waters rose. They were able to go home only the following day on board a boat in waist-deep water. It turned out that Pasig City was one of the cities greatly devastated by the flashfloods.

About 10 ladies from the GCF OC team (2 medical doctors, 2 dentists who served as pharmacists and 6 non-medical volunteers) decided to return to Napico on Tuesday and continue the outreach that was cut short by the rains and floods on Saturday. I am thankful to have been a part of it. From 4 in the afternoon until 7 in the evening, we were able to serve about 100 patients, mostly children suffering from cough, colds and fever. They were given medicines and vitamins. The Napico Community Christian Church where the outreach was held was very thankful. Even the church wasn’t spared from the flooding. Their pre-school at the ground floor became somewhat like an indoor pool during the storm. The medical outreach obviously strengthened their witness to their community.

Please continue to pray for the Philippines (particularly Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna and Batangas) as we recover from the damage of this calamity. We are learning to trust God more.
