59 @ 2009
Papa (Pastor Ed P. Gaston) celebrated his 59th birthday yesterday. It was quite uneventful as he had to wait in queue at the Land Transportation Office to renew his driver's license practically all day. And since we had been together the whole two weeks for the Christmas break, we sort of advanced the merry-making.
But today, I want to offer praise and thanksgiving to God, my father's Creator. Last year, we thought we would lose him to a spine ailment. His spine infection was so bad that he had to be given three kinds of antibiotics for over a month. By the time he left the hospital, his scoliosis had progressed and he was literally S-shaped. The doctor said he will never have an upright posture again and the condition can never be reversed, rather, it would only get worse as he grows older. After three months of painful therapy (which included tractions and routine exercises) Papa's back straightened and he walked straight again. All those who saw him prior to the procedure were surprised. Yes, God had performed a miracle!
I wish to thank all of you who prayed, fasted and loved Papa through 2008. It was a trying year for him to be forced to rest, be sedentary and most of all be prohibited from carrying his own grandchildren due to his spine condition. But God has been faithful to him. Papa is now 59 and looks better than ever (he is still not allowed to carry heavy things or exert pressure on his neck and back). He is looking forward to when he turns 60 and get his Senior Citizen's card which entitles him to 20% discount everywhere!
Papa, we praise God for you! You are dearly loved!

The neck brace will be Papa's lifetime companion (besides Mommy).
