Team Meeting, May 28, 2007
Summary of Damage:
Houses totally burned: approx. 118 in Bgy. 76; approx 50 in Bgy. 31; approx. 70 Taytayan Members
Houses partially damaged: 10 Taytayan Members
Families affected: approx. 320 Taytayan Families (15,000 individuals)
Area affected: 2 hectares shoreline
Fishing boats burned: 3
Status of Help Extended:
Tribal groups helping their tribesmen only
No government assistance yet
Still awaiting word from ministry partners and donors
DSWD in the loop c/o Usec. Pablo & Dr. Sotto
Some families are now staying in mosques and nearby covered basketball courts
Felt Needs:
Food
Cooking implements & utensils
Clothing
Dishwashing materials, toiletries
Beddings (ie. blankets and mats)
Temporary shelters/tents
Medicines
Building materials (ie. wood, galvanized sheets)
Building tools (ie. hammer, nails, saw, etc.)
Children’s schooling needs (ie. tuition fee, school uniform, shoes, school supplies)

Immediate Relief: (14 days)
1. Food—feeding program (community volunteers mobilized to cook food for supper; distribute meal stubs to our Taytayan families c/o Ka Isang)
Build a temporary distribution center (ie bamboo fencing, tent)
Buy plastic bowl (for sud-an)
Cellophane
Start: May 29, 2007
Personnel: community volunteers to distribute meal stubs, cook food, marshal people, distribute food; TDP will do marketing & buy cooking gas
2. Mats, cartons and blankets—to be distributed when available
Financial Resources Received:
Php 23,000 (from OMF) for 3 days=Php 7,600 for food/day for 320 families (P23.75/family)
Financial Resources Needed:
Php7,600/day for food for 11 days=Php83,600
Php5,000 to make the temporary center for food & relief distribution
Other Resources Needed:
Mats, blankets and cartons as beddings
Food donations (ie. canned goods, noodles, coffee, sugar, biscuits)
Pray for wisdom as we plan for long term relief aid (beyond the first 14 days) which may include the following:
Cooking implements & utensils
Clothing
Dishwashing materials, toiletries
Temporary shelters/tents
Medicines (ie. for children’s colds, cough and fever)
Building materials (ie. wood, galvanized sheets)
Building tools (ie. hammer, nails, saw, etc.)
Children’s schooling needs (ie. tuition fee, school uniform, shoes, school supplies)

Cause:
Residents’ speculations: city government’s way of “cleaning up” the drug scene; it could have been arson (no hard evidence, though, except for talks that one of the shanties had stocked up gasoline and guns which may have led to the quick spread of the flames)
