6 for 2006—Six praises for the past year.
1. Art Start. Praise God for the eight young Muslim artists from Bucana, Times Beach and Isla Verde who completed the art workshop and had their first exhibit. Three of the eight have seriously approached Grace desiring to be mentored. One has purchased his own art materials from his paintings’ sales.
2. Family Affair. Praise God for the first outdoor activity of the drug dependent youth and their families. Held in Hope Mountain, we had the privilege to build an atmosphere of care and love for these families through games and small group discussions. Many of them said it was the first time they experienced having a fun time with each other and not even smoking for a day. It was also the first time for them to say affirming words to each other, which was how the day ended.
3. People Power. Praise God for bringing a stream of short-term volunteers to our team this year who helped us do Kingdom work in this city. Thank God for Gerdy & Hanske (The Netherlands), Bill, Hasel & Noel (Canada), Evelynn (Malaysia), Sigrid & Luke (USA), Brian (Manila), Chris, James & Yee Hung (UK).
4. Discipleship Day. Praise God that Grace and our teammate Sol have met up with Farah before the year ended. It was a time of meaningful sharing and getting to know each other better. She’s become open to talk more about spiritual things. Her parents who have requested a Bible study with our team leader are encouraging us to reach out to Farah.
5. Book Launch. Praise God for the two books launched this year. Grace had the privilege of co-writing Real Time: Devotions for Filipino Youth and for making it to the Walking On: The Best of Women on the Journey, both published by Church Strengthening Ministry.
6. Drummer Boy. It is becoming more and more evident that Lian Ed is musically gifted! Though he dreams of playing the violin, saxophone and flute and loves playing his toy guitar and piano, his favorite is filling the house with drum beats. A short-term volunteer gave him a toy baby drum set which he plays every morning to the tune of Bee Gees songs!
