Blessed to be a Blessing Part 3

III. The Blessed

A. As a Church

As a church, GCF, being our home church has been a great blessing to me and my family. My wife, Grace, developed compassion for the lost, especially among Muslims as a youth here in GCF Ortigas. Her Sunday School teachers and disciplers helped her heed God’s call for her life to become a missionary. In fact, she was part of the first medical/dental outreach team that you sent to Davao City in 2000. Now, we both serve in that Tausug community.

As a partner, our church has blessed our team—the OMF-Malikha Urban Poor Team—in more ways than one. And as a missions-oriented church, you have been a blessing to several Muslim communities in Mindanao. GCF’s Operation Compassion has helped open the work in six Muslim communities. The first was in Bucana in 2000. Five years later when Grace and I went back to Bucana to serve in this community, the leaders gave us a warm welcome especially after they recognized her as one of those from GCF who came to help them years back. They even told us, “Until your team came we didn’t know that there were good Christians!” You also helped open the work in Times Beach in 2002, in Isla Verde in 2004, and most recently, in Zamboanga and in Basilan in 2005. In the words of Rio Hondo Barangay Councilor Gamar, “You didn’t think twice about coming here. You came from afar but you weren’t afraid. Nobody has ever come to help us. You were the first. Who would have thought that you, Christians, would be the first to come to help us.”

God has indeed blessed our church so that we can bless others, especially our Muslim neighbors. We can only praise Him!

B. As Individuals

How has God blessed you? Has he blessed you with material and financial resources? Has he blessed you with a second chance in life? Has he blessed you with a clean bill of health? Has he blessed you with a good education or a stable job? Has he blessed you with rich experiences in life? Has he blessed you with family and friends? If so, how have you become a blessing to others?

As an individual you can choose a host of practical ways to share your blessings. You can engage in God’s kingdom work by giving, praying, advocating, mobilizing and even going. Just consider how much God has blessed you and how much you can be a blessing!
