The Long Wait is Over!
On August 4, Grace and I went to the masjid (mosque) to meet up with the leaders of Bucana once again to discuss the community-based drug rehabilitation project. I presented my project proposal and the result of my research and survey to the community leaders. I shared with them that our team envisions Godly transformation among drugs and substance dependents and their families. I explained how much we want to facilitate drug and substance awareness and life skills training resulting in community-based rehabilitation and substance abuse prevention in Bucana. The leaders were all very happy and supportive. When I asked, “When can I begin?” They said, “Anytime! We’ve been waiting for you. Please start anytime. You can even start tomorrow!” Before our meeting ended, Ka Omar said, “We are very thankful to your team because you have chosen to help us! We will always be grateful. This is indeed from Allah!”
As I conduct the project, please remember these things in prayer:
1. Pray for wisdom as I implement the strategy plan. Pray that I’d be able to determine the appropriate approaches and therapies needed for each drug/substance dependent and for their families.
2. Pray for continued favor from the community leaders and the rest of the community. Their cooperation is very crucial to the process of healing.
3. Pray for the community center, which will be the main counseling venue. Pray for provisions for the renovation so it will be conducive to individual and group counseling and other activities. Presently, the center gets flooded during the rainy season and when the tide is high. The toilet needs to be fixed and the walls and roof need to be changed.
4. Yee Hung, a volunteer from the UK, is coming (on August 15) to assist me. Pray for a meaningful time and a favorable response from the community.
5. There would be a need for a vehicle as the project progresses. Though the team has a jeep, it is used throughout the week for the pre-school children. Pray with us for another vehicle that can be used in bringing counselees for medical check ups and for outdoor activities.
